Bio Phil Harman
Phil Harman is a strategic thinker who designs and delivers multi-faceted destination, marketing, investment and international development projects and campaigns which transcend borders.
With an eye for the big-picture and a grounded approach, informed by stakeholder needs, cross-cultural environments and market knowledge, Phil has managed local and global projects spanning tourism, climate change, energy, water and satiation and agriculture.
Having more than 20 years’ experience in the tourism and international development sectors, Phil has worked for both public and private organisations at a national, state, regional and international level.
This blend of public and private experience gives Phil a unique understanding of tourism and development from a grass roots, business, investor and strategic management perspective.
After several years working in Asia, Phil returned to Aussie shores in early 2017, once again collaborating with Judi, Robin and the Firstpoint team – having worked together on many joint ventures.
Before returning home, Phil headed up the Indonesia Country office for SNV Netherlands Development Organisiation. Here, he established the country operations from the ground up, growing to more than 40 staff and delivering projects directly benefiting more than 200,000 people.
Internationally, Phil has provided advice to governments in Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia on tourism development and management, infrastructure development and marketing. This role also includes advising and supporting international organizations such as UNESCO and WWF on protected area visitor management and tourism planning and investment facilitation.
In Australia, Phil has also worked on some of the country’s leading tourism marketing campaigns including the launch of Virgin Blue and “You’ll Love Every Piece of Victoria”. He also headed up the marketing for Invest Australia, the Federal Government’s inward investment agency and chaired the national investment marketing committee.
Phil brings to the table a balance of vision and pragmatism, his strong strategic skills assisting a diverse range of clients and organisations to conceptualise, design, implement and evaluate projects and campaigns. He is also an advocate for skills training and capacity building, this passion and commitment evident throughout his work.
